Losing your job is one of the most stressful things you can go through. However, it doesn’t give you an excuse to not pay your taxes or pay attention to tax deductions that you qualify for.

It is important to remember that unemployment compensation is taxable.

    Great point! I had a friend whose wife once completely opted out of having any taxes withheld (she didn't understand taxes, obviously), and that error would lead them to end up paying off the IRS for three years! People need to take the time to understand the law, because there is no insurance that they won't come after you if you did it wrong...
